FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What does it take to become a mentor?
Mentorship doesn’t require super powers! We believe anybody with the heart and desire to make a positive impact in children’s lives can impart a powerful influence. We also believe that great mentors are "built, not born," and provide a training program that offers mentors an opportunity to better understand our mission and core values and learn how to become effective mentors.

What is the commitment?
Mentors are expected to meet in-person at least twice each month and to communicate weekly with their mentees.

How does the actual mentoring work?
Once the initial meeting has taken place and agreements have been signed, the adult mentor and young person mentee will continue to meet on a regular basis for up to 12 months.

There are no hard and fast rules around what the young person and mentor would do in their mentoring times.  It can vary from simply having some fun together, doing sports, hobbies, walking, talking, eating food, working on projects, helping with homework or helping with work readiness.  Anything at all as long as it is going to help the young person and it’s a positive experience!

How do you match mentors and mentees?
We require our mentors and mentees to submit questionnaires, and then match them based on similar interests and preferences. We also conduct interviews with mentors to better understand characteristics that could lead to a good mentorship match.
